Jumpsuits Falling into Spring
April 2, 2009
And I DO mean look out. This trend has been seen on about every fashion blog, segment and is now popping up at retailers from coast to coast.
I must take a stance here and say that some trends were meant to stay in their respective decade. Period. This fashion faux pas had it’s mini comeback in 2007 and now wants another round? I think not!

Two years ago E! Online had this to say about the one piece wonder:
“Originally designed for skydiving purposes, jumpsuits were made famous by Elvis Presley, who bedazzled the one-pieces in the disco era. Decades later, Jennifer Lopez brought back the trend by wearing a Frankie B. jean version on her J.Lo album cover, and the style was immediately mimicked by everyone from Melissa Joan Heart to Carmen Electra. Now the jumpsuit is back—and hotter than ever, with a plethora of styles for every climate and occasion.”
“I like to think of jumpsuits as discreetly sexy,” says Frankie B. owner Daniella Clarke, the wife of former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke. “Jumpsuits magnify curves, so use them to your advantage.”
I’m sorry, I don’t believe I need any help in the department of magnifying my curves. Got that one covered.
I was bewildered when I saw a segment on E! this week showing off the hottest jumpsuits. Apparently they just can’t get enough of ‘em!
You can even get strapless jumpsuits to showoff your arms this summer. Lucky me! What ever happened to the flirty sundress? The material and lack of shape of the jumpsuits, especially the strapless, just looked so awkward.
And although I lahv lahv lahv The Hills (ladies, premiere this Monday!) but even Audrina is guilty of abandoning her fashion sense and jumping onto the jumpsuit band wagon. The title says it all, “Audrina Patridge is a Black Satin Jumpsuit Mess.”
Spotted: “The Hills star Audrina Patridge is usually known for donning very tight, revealing ensembles, especially when out partying. But last night she hit up Bar Deluxe in Los Angles wearing an ill-fitting black satin tube-top jumpsuit circa 1987 with silver platform heels. Her big fake boobs looked like they were suffocating, while the rouching around the mid-section did her tiny figure no favors.
Seriously, Audrina? Vintage is in, but this is ridiculous!”
Ouch, sounds like a classic Jessica Simpson blunder. Mom jeans, jumpsuits, ladies please learn from their very public mistakes.
Very few women can pull off even the more ‘flattering’ jumpsuits (and I do believe that’s because it’s an oxymoron).
But to point out a couple decent (it hurts to say) examples of how this trend can be seen, here:

Well, she’s pretty hot, but also a foot taller than me and a fraction of the weight. So if you look just like her, go, go now and wear this trend and look less silly than the rest of the fashion offenders.
There was even a jumpsuit from Express that actually caught my eye two weeks ago; but it undoubtedly magnified my curves and I concluded that it looked much better hanging on the wall.
I also liked a long sleeved flowy linen jumpsuit on the segment from the jumpsuit fanatics, E! I could really see myself wearing it on a beach as a cover-up or on some international cruise. But, not walking around in downtown Dallas.
So, whatever your take is on this Elvis-like trend, I just hope I never see it on you in orange.

…not so flattering after all.
XOXO
Trend Report: White Pants
March 27, 2009

To those of you who have inquired about my recent run in with the law, it’s true. I’m guilty! The FPD (Fashion Police Dept.) caught me – yes ME! Breaking one of the ten commandments of fashion.
Spotted: 5:37 p.m. at the City Tavern in (gasp) white pants BEFORE Easter. Did anyone hunt for eggs yet? I don’t think so.
I was just so excited about this upcoming trend that I could NOT wait to wear my latest linen threads.
It is officially Spring, and white pants are hot in any width and size. Spring and Summer mean relaxed, carefree days strolling outside in white pants looking fabulous in the sunshine.
While white trousers are frequently designed to be very wide legged for a laid-back style and comfort, do not rule out skinny white slacks or jeans; one fashionista divulges, “My favorite look is the white skinny jeans worn with an over-sized grey knit jacket.”

White pants are a fresh backdrop to a neutral top or a colorful blouse. You can pair also these skinny jeans with flats to finish the look and be, oh so comfortable for a walk to the park… or a walk to Nordys.
I suggest you pull out your fave pair of white slacks to wear them– after Easter, of course.
P.S. Would love feedback on this fashionistas! I’m a southern gal, it’s hot here. So tell me, do I have any kind of case against the FPD?
xoxo
Trend Report: Sexy Shoulders
February 26, 2009
Ok ladies, bust out those old Denise Austin yoga and pilates DVDs; one-shoulder dresses are in and we must show off those sexy, slender shoulders!
The fabulous thing about this asymmetrical neckline is that it flatters all figures and personalities and adds a subtle hint of sexuality without baring too much.
No matter what your style or occasion, Greek goddess at a dinner soiree, an after 5 look at a cocktail party (catching that co-workers eye you have been secretly crushing on) or a printed pattern on a bohemian temptress, the one-shoulder dress can work for any mood.
Nora Ashkar reports, “A popular look for this one-shouldered style is the Grecian gown, an ideal choice for classic affairs. The loose fabric and the way it drapes over your body will have you feeling like a goddess. If you like to push the envelope a little more, a mini dress is a modern-day interpretation. A little reminiscent of the ’80s, the look is bold and dance floor-ready.”

A sign of the one-shoulder’s popularity? It has been one of the most applauded looks on the red carpet, not to mention being spotted at history making events, in 2009. Our First Lady made headlines and swore in this trend looking oh, so elegant at the Inaugural Ball in her ivory Swarovski crystal embellished gown designed by New York designer Jason Wu.

To revamp those old dresses that have been buried in the back of your closet, try cinching the waist with a belt or pinning on floral accessories or even adding some bling. My personal favorite is a one-shoulder dress with a bubble hem. So comfy and classy!
So what did we learn fashionistas?
Stretch, tone and slim those arms into Spring shape to sport those sexy shoulders in your fave one-shoulder swag.
XOXO
