What’s Your Eccentric Glamour? Bohemian Chic

May 14, 2009

In Simon Doonan’s book, Creating an Insanely More Fabulous You, Eccentric Glamour, Doonan takes a stand against Hollywood-inspired “porno-chic” style. He believes that every woman must have her own unique (and eccentric) sense of personal style, I couldn’t agree more. In a world of mass-produced fashion and US Weekly becoming more of a fashion Bible then Vogue, how is it possible to define, create, and maintain a truly original personal sense of style?

I’ve categorized the modern fashionista into 5 of the following groups: Bohemian, Rocker Chic, Classic, Urban, Couture. What type of fashionista style defines you?

Bohemian Chic

Bohemian chic style is all about combining old with new and vintage with modern. It’s about mixing different styles: a bit of hippy with a dash of classic, a sprinkling of rocker with a bite of hipster. Boho’s enlist the use of different fabrics, materials, patterns, and textures. A bohemian loves to express their travels, creativity, and emotion in their clothes.

In the words of Mr. Doonan himself, “SAY NO TO HO! … and yes to ECCENTRIC GLAMOUR.”

Stay tuned for my spotlight on Rocker Chic, Classic, Urban, and Couture style in the weeks to come …

Headlines This Week 4/3

  • It’s nice to see Anna Faris in clothes and looking like she has more than three brain cells. I don’t know who’s her agent but can someone tell them that the whole House Bunny, looking like a pin up in mens magazine thing is so not cool. Thank god someone is trying to make this girl seem like she has some sense, fashion sense that is… FashionIndie.com
  • Hot on the heels of Gwyennie Paltrow, Pamela Anderson has announced that she too is a fashion designer. Yes if you thought 2009 had already seen enough collaborations then think again, because here’s one more. The Baywatch buxotopm beauty has teamed up with ex-Heatherette designer Richie Rich to create an ethical footwear line. MyFashionLife.com
  • The arrival of Topshop/Topman this week has sent New Yorkers into something of a frenzy. Fashion followers are desperate to get their hands on the British label’s cheap and cheeky product while partygoers are anxiety ridden over which of the three opening parties they’re invited to. (Yes, there are three. Apparently just one — or none — seemed too 2009.) WWD.com
  • Every time a big event comes up, I find myself scurrying around for something to wear. I want to buy the hottest frock off the rack but I, literally, do not want to pay the consequences. And seriously, what girl wants to fork over $500 for a dress she’ll wear a couple times a year? Well, it looks like we can have our cake and eat it too through a cool site called WearTodayGoneTomorrow.com. FabSugar.com
  • Soon you’ll be able to channel style icon Nicole Richie from head to toe — at least as far as accessories are concerned. Following the success of her line of headbands and jewelry, the star has just inked a deal to design footwear, WWD reports. People.com
  • Okay, so I’m not a dude, but god Gisele is gorg!! Supermodel, humanitarian, quarterback’s wife, and May cover girl for Vanity Fair, duh duh duh… Gisele Bündchen. Apparently she also sells magazines if she’s on the cover. VanityFair.com

Celebrity Fashion Style – Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie at New York Fashion Week

February 18, 2009

Celebrity Fashion Style - Kim Kardashian New York Fashion Week 2009New York Fashion week has been cruising along this week with celebrity sightings left and right at shows like Marc Jacobs, William Rast, Dianne Von Furstenburg, and Charlotte Ronson. While the runways have been nothing short of spectacular, we saw some celebrities who caught our eye with simple color palettes of black and white with a modern twist. We wanted to share with you the most ready-to-wear items, as most of the  fashion on the runways need some tweaking before hitting the storefronts.

On Sunday, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush were spotted front row at Y-3 and Kim gave us the best outfit for day or to dress up for evening. We toned down the shoulder pads in our fashion recommendation, we still are all about the faux leather leggings!

Celebrity Fashion Style - Nicole Richie New York Fashion Week

Meanwhile at Marc Jacobs, Nicole Richie dances on the scene with her signature “hippie” head band, but keeping classic colors with black and white. Again, more leather with the skirt, but the shoes are the real statement piece of the outfit.

Almost gladiator-esque, these black heels should be included in your wardrobe to add some glam to your outfit.

We definitely cant wait to see what other celebrities catch our eye and keep it real during the remaining days of fashion capital’s busiest week!
