- Michelle Williams these days divides her time between her house in Brooklyn and a house in upstate New York. The location of the latter property is a secret, for understandable reasons: Since the death in 2008 of Heath Ledger, the father of her daughter, Matilda, the beautiful and shy actress has inevitably found herself at the center of a morbid cult and, most pertinent, the object of the tabloids’ banal, destructive intrusiveness. - We always talk about how skinny models are, and this week a model actually fainted on the catwalk. At Jeffrey Chow’s first collection for the Poleci presentation Saturday night, a model passed out. Love is in air with Valentine’s day just around the corner. This week Oligoville has been all about kindness and love starting with our great string ring giveaway. There is still time to sign up for that if you havent already. Then we featured a gorgeous red dress with a 50’s flair which inspired our closet remix article spotlighting the beautiful silver screen fashions of Oscar nominated film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So why stop there? I wanted to finish this week off with some songs that will keep all of you love birds out there thinking about your special someone. The colored strings can be changed as often as desired depending on the message you wish to remember. For example, red or pink is the color of love and is a reminder to be kind to one another. Blue represents tranquility, and promotes patience with others. Purple stands for empathy and serves as a sign to be tolerant of the differences between us. Silver symbolizes wisdom and understanding and is a reminder to forgive. Gold is the color of wealth and acts as reminder to give…not just money, but your attention, time, knowledge, or even a smile. Green is a reminder to respect the environment and all other living things. Orange represents energy and enthusiasm and is a reminder to laugh – “Especially at ourselves,” said Tina Mansfield, the ring’s creator.
Design Inspiration: String-Ring by Tina Mansfield
It seems to me as though everywhere you look, you come across rude behavior in our society. I’ve observed, through personal experience or news programming, such violent behavior as road rage, campus rampages, ugly office politics, weapons and threats in the schools, most recently cyber bullies, and simply just a basic lack of respect in our everyday interactions with those around us. I’ve asked myself, “How can we teach our children to be kind and compassionate when such aggressive behavior is exhibited everywhere you look?”
One evening, my husband asked me to critique the layout design of a jewelry website he had just built for a western jewelry designer whose work was heavy on symbolism, String-Ring started to take shape. Thinking to myself, “I could create an inspirational ring reminding people to be kind using the old custom of tying a string around your finger.”
