FASHION BY THE RULES: Glove Love
November 29, 2010
A glove is a garment covering the hand. Gloves have separate sheaths or openings for each finger and the thumb; if there is an opening but no covering sheath for each finger they are called “fingerless gloves.” Fingerless gloves with one large opening rather than individual openings for each finger are sometimes called gauntlets. Gloves which cover the entire hand or fist but do not have separate finger openings or sheaths are called mittens.
With Thanksgiving here and gone, the temperatures will certainly be on the decline and that means you will surely need something to keep those hands warm once the winter cold really sets in. As with everything else that has been discussed these past few weeks, gloves can give us a bit on insight about their wearer. For instance, you might be the fashionista type who wants gloves to match each piece of outerwear with beauty being the key attribute while we may have the skier who would rather just use their ski gloves every day and then there are those who really want warm hands and dispense with all worries about appearance and go strictly for warmth and no attention paid to looks.
So, which one are you? The color coordinated fashion first type, the utilitarian, the lazy type with one pair suits all or a combination of all. The runways for the past year have been full of gloves for each season which harkens back to the 40’s and 50’s when elbow length and opera length glove were de rigeur and no lady would be caught dead without her white write lengths when venturing out for lunch.
As you might have guessed, this examiner is all in favor of all types of accessories for men and women. It’s the quickest way to update a look and also the most fun, let your imagination run free.

Trend Report: Gladiators Hotter Than Russell
March 19, 2009
TA DA! This week’s Oligoville Trend Report, like it or not, is dedicated to spring shoes, hot shoes and oh so fabulous shoes… GLADIATORRRS. Don’t worry! They’re not as intimidating as they sound. They’re pretty comfy and definitely all the rage with
celebs and socialites. Amy’s definition: strappy sandal reminiscent of ancient Rome which can sometimes have an aggressive edge.
How do you KNOW this is the latest trend? Uh Rachel Zoe, duh. Rachel, who consistently picks the latest and greatest pairs of designer shoes for online retailer PiperLime.com, has an abundance of Roman inspired sandals for this spring. Here is a ‘bananas,’ neon green pair of casual gladiator sandals for your upcoming spring beach bash. Dynah by Cynthia Vincent retails at $200.00 on PiperLime.com.
Another favorite site of mine, Bergdorffs.com, has dedicated a complete section to ‘Aggressive Black Shoes’ which includes this S&M inspired pair from the illustrious Christian Louboutin for a mere $1,500.00.

Need a pair for Easter?? No prob bob. These sandals are perfect with a flowy dress from Urban. Just make sure to snatch them up in a neutral pair (another fantastic spring trend) and of course… paint those little piggies.

Can we drill into your head ‘gladiators are hot for spring’ anymore in this Trend Report? Didn’t think so, but I do want to warn you of an up-and-coming not so much… jellie gladiators. UCK! BOOOO! HISSS! *Do not purchase or I will repeatedly mock you behind your back.* J/K. Not really.

XOXO
