Celebrity Style – 2009 Fall Trends
September 9, 2009 by TammyTrujillo
Fashion is falling into our laps this week as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week continues to showcase next springs hot new designs and stylists getting prepped for the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday Sept 20th.
While most of the fashion world is concerned with spring 2010 season this week, we wanted to focus on the now. What fall trends do you need to think about adding to your wardrobe?
NYMag.com names the top 9 Fall Trends for 2009, saying must-haves are faux fur, thigh high boots, boyfriend jackets, leggings, red palettes, velvet, disco patterns, leather and waist defining belts.
So far, we are already seeing some of our favorite celebs step out wearing the must-have items and we can look forward to seeing more and more of them on the streets in the months to come.
Anne Hathaway sports a bright red tee with distressed denim on the streets of New York, which is definitely a color we will be seeing come in different clothing items such as jackets, blouses, v-neck tees, and of course dresses. Bright red dresses will be something to look for in the up-coming award season.
One trend that has been a recurring favorite season over season are leggings. Leggings are
currently still a hot ticket item for your wardrobe and will continue to be as layering for fall is the perfect combination. To mix two trends into one, you can try liquid leggings or leather leggings to get the “leather” rock look as Ashley Olsen has been photographed numerous occasions in. Leather-like leggings dress up an outfit adding an extra “wow” factor and are great for a night out.
Another trend easy to add to your closet is thick belts for accentuating your waist. Wide belts can be worn over blazers, dresses, or longer tunic tops to make your waist the focal point of your outfit. Kim Kardashian did a great job at last season’s New York Fashion week, pairing her wide black belt with a structured white blazer.
When adding a belt, make sure the design or color doesn’t clash with the rest of your attire and matches at least one element of something else you are wearing.
Personally, fur can be difficult to wear depending upon which part of the country you live in, but more importantly you should go with faux fur. Faux fur can look just as dashing for fall and make the same
statement. Great designs can be found at Juicy Couture, Nordstroms, and TopShop to match whatever your style is. Sarah Jessica Parker has paired her over-sized fur jacket with leather leggings making it an all over fall trend look.
For cooler days, you must grab a pair of thigh high boots. Seen all over the runways, these boots are sexy, modern, and can keep you warm. Make sure you pair them with form-fitting jeans or leggings so that you don’t overwhelm the boot with stuffed material. You can also wear them with dresses and patterned stockings.
The best part is they come with a stiletto heel as seen on Carrie Underwood and Kate Moss or flat soles as Hilary Duff wears.
If you can only choose one fall fashion trend, the item to pick would be a perfect fitting boyfriend jacket. The boyfriend jacket or boyfriend blazer is very versatile for daytime, business meetings, casual outings paired with denim, or nighttime paired with leather leggings. The boyfriend blazer adds structure to your shoulders creating a nice v-cut
making your waist appear smaller. Nicole Richie wears her blazer open with a form fitting tank and dark jeans, making it a sophisticated day outfit.
There are lots of options this fall that can be mixed and matched together, and some can be long-lasting wardrobe additions. We pulled together one item from each of our favorite cateogries in our fashion widget, but we want to hear from you. Vote and tell us which fall fashion trend is your must-have!
