Closet Remix: Bye Sweats, Hello World!
November 6, 2008 by shylab
Weekends are a time of sleeping in, egg-white omelets, and spandex. It’s easy to roll out of bed, throw on a sweatshirt, and head out for your soy latte in your pajama bottoms. However, this habit is not only harmful to yourself but also to others around you. Next time you think it’s ok to step out in your Minnie Mouse slippers, please stop yourself.
A few essential items can easily be paired together to ensure your weekend look is put together, appropriate for the outside world, and perhaps a tad sexy. Opt for yoga pants instead of baggy old sweats. Lululemon makes killer yoga pants (with a killer price tag), but I recently got some $12 ones from Target that are just as delicious. Also choose a puffy jacket or your new fall coat instead of that college hoodie or your boy-toy’s fleece.
Accessories are key ingredients to turn lounge wear into weekend wear. Throw a scarf over your jacket. Put a cute beanie over your unwashed locks. Don’t forget your sunglasses and purse. (Also, don’t forget your grooming habits. A little perfume, a dab of makeup, and an encounter with soap are necessary even outside the office.)
Before you slide into your fave pink sweats from 1994, keep the following in mind:
- Avoid anything over-sized
- When in doubt, stock up on basics (White tees, comfy jeans, cardigans)
- What’s more comfortable than a casual cotton dress? Nothing!
- Comfortable boots—Uggs are not the only option, trust me—are essential and sexy
I know how wonderful an elastic waist is, but do you really want to run into your ex wearing spandex and a scrunchie? And, we all remember the Seinfeld episode where we learned that sweats are the equivalent of giving up on life. We at Oligoville agree.
