Flirty Dress and Skinny Belt Paired with a Flowy Cardy

I had a white cardigan circa 1995—it had holes all over it. I looked homeless when I wore it. I didn’t care; I still loved it. This week while cleaning out my closet I hesitantly dropped my beloved cardy in the give-away pile. That very same night I needed my white cardy … I dug it out. The next morning I was so disgusted with myself that I immediately drove it to Goodwill. I went to Gap that day and bought two cardigans—one white, one khaki—each on sale for $22.

Cardigans are an absolute must-have item for your Autumn wardrobe. They infinitely multiply the potential of every piece you own. If your scratching your dreads wondering how the eff do I pull this off … don’t stress. The possibilities are endless. (P.S. Check your Granny and Mom’s closets before running to the store and busting out your plastic.)

You can wear a basic cardigan over practically everything in your wardrobe. Throw your cardy over your fave casual dress. Sass your cardy out with an embellished belt. Layer, layer, layer—a cardigan is an absolute must-have piece for Fall’s layering craze. As you can see by Jerell from Project Runway’s makeover piece, a masculine cardy can be paired with an extremely feminine look to make it more interesting and current. Feel free to go wild with your cardy colors. Picture some dark skinny jeans, a white tee, and a brightly colored cardy … delicious! Perhaps you can wear a long cardigan with a pair of tights or with your new favorite boots.

Not only will cardigans keep you bundled, cozy, and warm, but they will also maintain your status as a trendster vixen all Fall long.

Trend Report: Plaid

September 24, 2008

I saw this trend a year ago on Paris runways but I never thought it would be this popular here in the US, nor could I have predicted that I would embrace it. I call this plaid craze “Punk meets Lumberjack”. Who knew I had a penchant for anything punk or anything lumberjack for that matter. Yet it works! Its casual yet put-together. It can be a great option for work or a rave! Is that what they call it these days?

I’ve taken inspiration from Topshop’s lookbook which cleverly combines different size plaids and colors, giving it a nice refreshing twist to a potentially frumpy look. To play it safe, I keep the plaid to one piece and then add a very sleek item like leggings, skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. Timbeeeer!!

A Fall Update on My Fave College Hoodie

See by Chole Hooded Scarf

Chloe Hooded Scarf

My favorite (secret) item of clothing is my old, dilapidated hooded college sweatshirt. When I slip my arms into that hoodie and throw the hood over my cracked-out hairdo (note: I don’t wear this sweatshirt often, only when I’m having a I-can’t-dress-myself-I-feel-like-a-rhino day) my heart literally slows down to breathe—I just feel good. You can imagine the sheer bliss I felt when I lay my eyes on this Hooded Scarf by Chloe.

With 8’10″ of cashmere, angora, and wool one can only dream of the warmth, security, and clandestine coverage you will get wrapped up in Chloe. I’ll admit that at $295 it’s a bit of an investment, but it will take you from Fall to Winter year after year after year … (so I tell myself).

Granted I’m moving to Houston, Texas where the sun perpetually shines and taking into account that women in the western world should be liberated from covering their heads, I still need this scarf. I whole-heartedly agree with shopbop.com that this scarf is a “brilliant marriage of fashion and function.” Furthermore, it’s a brilliant marriage of Shyla and scarf.
