House of Dang

We had the great pleasure to work with Andrew Bayer and Doug Voisin during our first marketing campaign, which we wrote about in our last entry. This talented duo are the force behind the Dallas based label, House of Dang. Their colorful and bold combinations caught our eye and it was a match made in Oligoville heaven!

Their designs are inspired by and made “for women that like to have fun with their style by mixing bold colors and patterns! Our customer is a girl who knows how to carry herself and is not afraid to look super cute.” House of Dang’s ready to wear line focuses on separates and retail from $45.00-$175.00.

These fun pieces can be purchased in their very own eponymous boutique along side other equally talented local designers. Be sure to check out their great new site which captures their personalities and style.

Below is our interview with House of Dang:

When and how was your brand born?

We both interned together at the World Trade Center in Dallas and were disgusted by a lot of the designs we saw. Instead of complaining about it, we decided to collaborate and come up with our own take on design.

What inspires your designs?

We are always watching people. Whether it is on the street or in an elevator we love to see what people are wearing. It can also come from a variety of other things; cats, dogs, fabric, furniture or even scrambled eggs, our inspiration comes from all over the place!

How have your designs evolved since your started your company?

The quality of the product is much better, but the aesthetic has not changed too much!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

We have been lucky enough to have a great community that has been very supportive of us; also our website and store are really cute!

Tell us about some eye opening set backs you have faced since starting your business and what you have learned from that.

We decided to open up our own store one day, and the next week we were signing a lease. We had no clue what we were doing, but we did know that we were on to something cool. It has been one of our great lessons to date. We learned that if you are passionate about something, pursue it and make it happen! Also, we have created an outlet for other young designers to show their talent in the store.

What advice do you have for other aspiring designers out there?

Don’t be all talk and get ready for some reality checks.
